5 Food Banks in the City of Hamilton to Donate to Today

Across Canada 841,200 Canadians are accessing food banks each month, 44% come from Ontario and this number is only rising due to COVID-19. Food banks have always relied on the support of the community to receive donations in order to continuously have ready, available items for those in need. With food drives and events unable to happen, food banks need our help more than ever. Below are 5 different organizations in the City of Hamilton to donate to.

Good Shepherd Centre 

Location: 90 Stinson St, Hamilton, ON

Good Shepherd Centre has been supporting the Hamilton community since 1961, over the years they have grown to become one of the largest providers of health and human services in the Hamilton area. Good Shephard's services include emergency food and clothing, transitional housing and education, emergency shelter, daily hot meals and more!

Donations can be dropped off at the Venture Centre Monday to Friday between 9am and 3pm. They are also currently offering a virtual store, by providing a monetary donation individuals can then ‘shop’ for food items they wish to donate. Neighbour 2 Neighbour Centre

Location: 28 Athens St, Hamilton, ON

The Neighbour 2 Neighbour Centre has been operating on the Hamilton Mountain for over 30 years. They offer a unique experience for their clients that rewards points based on household members and income. Clients can then ‘shop’ around Neighbour 2 Neighbour’s food storage with their points allowing individuals to feel dignity and comfort in the food bank process. In addition to offering a food bank, Neighbour 2 Neighbour offers tutoring programs, financial counseling, community counseling as well as emergency food access.

All food donations can be dropped off at the Neighbour 2 Neighbour warehouse located at 28 Athens Street, Monday to Friday from 9am to 3:30pm. To see a full list of items needed you can visit their website here.

St. Matthew's House

Location: 414 Barton St E, Hamilton, ON

St. Matthew's House has been servicing the Hamilton community since 1964. It began as an outreach program to help residents in Hamilton’s north end and has now grown into a multi service agency. St. Matthew's House offers children’s services, senior’s support, as well as mental health and street outreach.

Donation drop off is located at St. Matthew's House on Barton Street, visit their website for a full list of food items in high demand.

The Hamilton Dream Center

Location: 627 Main St E, Hamilton, ON

Founded by Ace and Joy Clarke The Hamilton Dream Center is a charity located in the City of Hamilton. The Hamilton Dream Center offers a variety of services including a Food and Clothing Bank, Prom Closet, Holiday Giveaways, and more!

They are not currently accepting clothing donations due to COVID-19, however food donations are always needed. To donate you can visit their website here.

Welcome Inn Community Centre

Location: 40 Wood St E, Hamilton, ON

Welcome Inn Community Centre strives to alleviate poverty, loneliness and marginalization by offering community support through their 5 programs; Children’s Programs, Senior’s Programs, Food Access Initiatives, Community Programs and their New Horizons Thrift Store.

Welcome Inn’s food bank is open and is providing access to each household once every 30 days due to high demand. To donate to Welcome Inn's food bank you can visit their website here.
