The Local Skateboard Shop located on 101 John Street, Hamilton Ontario is an inherent part of Hamilton's skate community. The owner of The Local, Jason Dworsky, has been a skater for over 25 years and always dreamed about owning his own skate shop.  Eight years ago, he decided to make that dream a reality, this decision he states, was driven by the community. Dworsky not only wanted to create a skate shop but also a place that would be heavily involved with and a large supportor of the skate community in Hamilton.

The Local actively plays a role in the Hamilton skate community, by selling skateboards, shoes, clothes, jewelry, sunglasses, books and more! At The Local there is something for everyone. The Local also hosts and sponsors various events in Hamilton as well as sponsoring local skateboarders.

When asked to describe The Local Skateboard Shop, Dworsky said “community”.

It was a top priority for Dworsky to be involved within the Hamilton community as a whole, aside from the skate community they are also actively involved in various organizations within Hamilton. They sponsor charities including Hamilton Paramedic Service, Food for Kids, Safe Injection Site, Hamilton Health Sciences, and Six Nations New School, Kawenní:io.

The Downtown Hamilton BIA also works closely with The Local and is supportive of the Hamilton skate community. In the future, there is hope for more development and expansion of skate facilities.

When asked to describe The Local in one word Dworsky said “community”. The goal of The Local is to make everyone feel welcomed and supported, and they have certainly achieved this. Whether you're a skater or not, next time you're on John Street checkout The Local for a little piece of Hamilton community.
