What's New?: Music Library Updates (Part 2)
Hey all, it’s time for another update from the bunker (a.k.a. the CFMU studios).
There’s so many good albums still coming out…and, in lieu of being able to play them on the airwaves, let us simply point you in a few directions! Here’s some of the titles that we saw come into our music office this week.
SNOTTY NOSE REZ KIDS – BORN DEADLY EP
When he won the Polaris award a couple years ago, Jeremy Dutcher talked about an Indigenous renaissance in Canadian arts and music. Snotty Nose Rez Kids (two-time Polaris nominees) are undoubtedly part of that. The new EP (following on the heels of the excellent Trapline) features more beats and rhymes from Darren "Young D" Metz and Quentin "Yung Trybez" Nyce. In a statement, the duo said about the first single, “Real Deadly”: “Much in the way that our track, "Boujee Natives," spoke to the richness of indigenous fashion, style, culture, and identity, we want "Real Deadly" to be a positive affirming song.”

JOEL PLASKETT – 44
Joel Plaskett isn’t one to shy away from ambitious projects and unexpected collaborations. The East Coast singer-songwriter has recorded concept albums (Ashtray Rock), triple-disc collections (Three) and even recorded albums with his folk singer father (Solidarity). Now he comes out with 44, released on April 17, his last day of being 44 years old. The album is – you guessed it – actually four albums, with 11 songs on each, featuring a remarkable 33 guest musicians. The songs were recorded in Dartmouth, Memphis, Nashville and Toronto. It’s also sonically ambitious and sees Plaskett poke at several genres he’s never poked at before. Don’t worry, though; there’s plenty here for old fans to enjoy – this is a Plaskett record through and through.

THE STROKES – THE NEW ABNORMAL
Strokes fans have been waiting seven years to hear something new from the New York band. Not that the members haven’t been busy – in fact, singer Julian Casablancas was in Hamilton just last fall. Now, finally, they’ve reunited to record The New Abnormal, with the assistance of legendary producer Rick Rubin. Fans will be happy to read the review in The Guardian that states the album “proves that when they put their minds to it, that old magic is still well within the Strokes’s grasp.” Good enough for us.
