From the Vaults E05: Alessia Cara
In this week’s episode of From the Vaults, we look back to Alessia Cara’s 2016 visit to Hamilton and her interview with CFMU on the Morningfile with Ingie Metwally and Michelle Cooke.
When we interviewed Alessia Cara just over two years ago, she was about to embark on her first concert tour in support of her debut album, Know-It-All. Today, she is the first Canadian-born winner of the best new artist Grammy. The young artist has quickly risen through stardom over the years, and we were lucky enough to have her perform right here in Hamilton at TwelvEighty when she was just getting started.
Naturally, Alessia impressed the McMaster crowd with her raw talent and genuine performances.
During our interview, we discussed her music and she shared the key to making hers stand out: focusing on her own experiences, and her own creativity for inspiration. Her song Here was written about her not-so-great experience at a party, and she even had it recreated in the music video with the real life party-goers. Talking with Alessia about her music and her experiences showed us a different side of fame. She’s just a girl from Brampton, not too far from here, with a dream and a drive to make it come true. This interview was short and sweet, but gives us a glimpse of Alessia’s true down to earth nature and love for music.
