This month, Start2Finish will be hosting a number of charity events called May FUNRaising to help fund their Hamilton Running  & Reading Clubs. They’ll be providing a few events in Hamilton such as Dodgeball on May 13th 4pm-6pm at Tim Hortons Field and Pilates in the Park on May 27th 10am-11am at Bennetto Public School’s field.

Laurie Konkle, Start2Finish Hamilton & Halton Regional Director, explained the idea for the event, is to bring back some nostalgia value. Events like Dodgeball or the Never-Ending Story attempt to bring back memories of childhood games for those who might’ve not had a chance to do them since they’ve been in school.

The event is run by Start2Finish, which is an organization that provides activities and team-building exercises for youth who may not have access to them. Their mission is to support these youth by providing on-going educational support by nurturing mind, body and social health so these children are empowered to succeed.

To achieve this mandate, they provide a number of programs such as the BackPack Program, providing school supplies to thousands of kids who may not have access. They also have the Running & Reading club program, which is a 32 week program give these children access to enhanced literacy and physical activity. Start2Finish has 33 Running & Reading Club programs successfully operating around the country.

These programs are inspired by research based out of universities like McMaster, that have informed the importance of fitness and academic excellence. Laurie explains, fitness has the capacity to help study reduce stress and develop better academic habits.
All donations are welcome at the event.
