Collette Andrea is a Toronto based singer-songwriter. Since the age of 12, she knew that music was her true calling. Her third EP, the fittingly named “Thr33”, was recorded in three days during the third month of the year featuring three band members. According to Andrea, the number three signifies completion and celebration after experiencing many obstacles.

In my opinion, her music is powerful, with meaningful lyrics and strong melodies. Andrea clearly knows what her music is about; she knows how to portray herself and her own personal style through her art. She is sure of herself and the way she wishes to be presented to the world, which I think is extremely important when deciding to share your art with the world.

“Writing comes very easy to me, and I knew that I wanted to pursue my art because it was the only thing that I felt like I had control over in my life… I feel the most connected when I am playing music,” she says about her work.

“Can’t Help,” is my favourite track from the EP. It’s the only acoustic song on the EP, the last one that was recorded, and also happens to have an interesting story attached to its production.

“I remember being in the studio, it was late at night and my producer had just finished setting up the mics…He had me walk into the room, grab the guitar, and just start playing and singing the song,” says Andrea. “I didn't know that he was recording the take, and we ended up only recording once because of the magic of the recording.”

If you listen closely to the background noise of the song, you can hear the sound of the rain that was falling during the recording. This impromptu recording turned into a major success for the album. The song is a true testimony to Andrea’s pure talent in one single take of “Can’t Help.”

When I asked Andrea about her future as an artist, she seemed to have a pretty good idea of what she would like to accomplish.

“For my future, I always hope to perform and tour and continue to write music… I have a few projects that I am working on with music as I venture into a new chapter in my life,” she answered.

In addition to being a singer/songwriter, Andrea is also a yoga instructor. She is currently working on an album featuring deep ambient pads, guitar, and crystal singing bowls. The album “Evolve” is set to release this fall.

“I have been performing my music live more and more in yoga and meditation classes, and it is definitely something that I enjoy in comparison to being on stage and in more formal settings,” says Andrea.

I enjoyed getting to know more about Collette Andrea and her music career. Aside from writing and performing beautiful music, she is as down-to-earth as they come. She takes her art seriously and it truly shows. Her passion for music really touched me, which is something that I hope others will be able to feel as well!

Collette Andrea is a true artist with pure talent. I would definitely recommend giving her latest EP “Thr33” a listen as soon as possible!
