Close Talker Brings Their Eastern Canadian Tour to Hamilton

On Saturday night, Saskatoon’s very own Close Talker hit the stage at Mills Hardware, along with opening acts Language Arts and GREY \\ WATER. One of the things I always note attending a show at Mills Hardware is the atmosphere: it boasts a relaxing, social, casual and open vibe. The minute you walked in, you could sense that everyone was there for the sole purpose to hang out, have a good time, and enjoy the live music. Thus, it was the perfect venue for a lineup of this nature.

The night started off with Hamilton-based indie rock group GREY \\ WATER as the opening act. A couple of months ago, I stumbled across the band after hearing their single, “Jimmy” on Spotify. When they opened with the song, I was immediately overjoyed to finally hear it live. Along with playing their single Jimmy, the band’s set featured both music off their EP Love and some new songs they’ve been working on. From GREY \\ WATER’s great stage presence to the powerful vocals of lead singer Charlotte, the band really managed to catch the audience’s attention.

Following GREY \\ WATER, Toronto-based group Language Arts, who had been opening up for Close Talker on their Canadian tour, took the stage. One of the things that stood out to me about the band was their very unique sound. Songs such as, “Secret Worlds In The Dark” and “Through” brought out the band’s synth pop sounds, while others really showcased the band’s dreamy pop-rock tone. Language Arts brought out a warm, welcoming vibe that really captivated the crowd. The band even brought out a special guest – they brought out their cute service dog Sprout out, who was adored by the crowd for their set.

Finally, Close Talker closed out the night with a stellar set. You could sense the excitement in the room build up as the band took center stage, with their multicoloured stage lights. The instant Close Talker started their set you could tell how passionate they were about music by how enthusiastically they played every song. This three piece band had synchronized harmonies guided their indie rock sound which caught the ear of many. By the end of the night, the crowd wanted more, as the band stepped back up to stage for a few more songs as an encore.
